In a significant victory against drug trafficking, Jammu Police have seized a haul of 33 kilograms of heroin-like substance worth over ₹33 crores at the Jammu Bus Stand. The operation, conducted on August 9, 2024, led to the apprehension of a Punjab resident, Harmeet Singh, who was found in possession of the consignment.
The seizure was made by the police team from Police Station Bus Stand, Jammu, following a tip-off about a large consignment of drugs being transported through the bus stand. The team acted swiftly and intercepted the suspect, who was attempting to transport the drugs to Punjab.
Upon searching the suspect’s belongings, the police found 33 kilograms of a heroin-like substance, which was later confirmed to be heroin. The estimated value of the seized drugs is over ₹33 crores in the international market.
Harmeet Singh has been arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigations are underway to trace the origins and destination of the drugs.
The Jammu Police have been conducting regular operations to curb drug trafficking in the region, and this seizure is one of the largest ever made by the police. The police have also intensified their efforts to gather intelligence and conduct surveillance to prevent drug smuggling.
